Amy Whiten and Alistair Wyllie lecture within the Creative Industries Faculty. They also own and manage Recoat (, a Glasgow based Arts Organisation. Over the past 6 weeks they have been working on an exciting mural project in partnership with Upland Arts Development CIC to promote Dumfries and Galloway’s Spring Fling Open Studios Event (

Spring Fling Rural Mural saw 6 large-scale murals painted on rural and urban sites in Scotland and abroad. They partnered 3 Upland artists with 3 Recoat artists. These creative teams each painted collaborative murals in the home region of Dumfries and Galloway and the away cities of Newcastle, Berlin and Glasgow. The murals were inspired by the theme of Exchange and local community workshops fed into concepts for the artworks.

Amy and Ali were partnered with Morag Paterson and created a mural in Moniaive and one in Glasgow at On the Corner, 253-257 London Road. To find the location of all the murals visit the Spring Fling website, there are lots of studios and beautiful art to visit too

The project was featured on the BBC, ITV, the Herald and the Scotsman. If you missed the coverage you can see the BBC feature here- and you can see photos from the project at Upland’s Flickr-

Upland and Recoat are holding an event this evening 28 April 5.30-7pm to launch the project and showcase what has been achieved. All staff and students are welcome. A link to more info here-
